Part of our job at Diversified Heating & Cooling is to help residents and businesses in Central Oregon get the most value out of their heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Our business is to make you comfortable.
For this reason, we offer a series of preventative maintenance packages designed to meet the needs of our different customers. These plans offset the cost of repairs, parts, and routine service calls. They give you the peace of mind that your HVAC system is cared for by a trusted professional.
Your HVAC system is a significant investment. Heating and cooling expenses typically account for nearly half your monthly utility bill. Protecting your investment with a solid maintenance plan only makes sense.
Do-It-Yourself (DIY) HVAC Maintenance
When it comes to maintaining your HVAC equipment, there are jobs left to the professionals and others you can do on your own. Listed below are a few DIY jobs that will help keep your equipment operating at peak efficiency for years to come:
Change Your Air Filters
Follow your system’s manufacturer guidelines on which filters to use and how often they should be changed. As a rule of thumb, most air filters should be changed every one to three months if you want to get the best performance out of your system. If you have pets in your home, someone who smokes, or someone with allergies, you may want to change them more often to maintain your indoor air quality.
Perform Spring Cleaning
Your outdoor air conditioning or heat pump unit needs a little space to breathe. Remove any vegetation growing around your equipment so that you have approximately two feet of clearance. As the weather starts to warm up, gently spray off your outdoor equipment with a water hose to remove any dirt or grime clogging up the condenser.
Seal Up Gaps
Use caulk or a similar substance to seal up gaps around your doors and windows. A few small drafts around your home can tax your HVAC system, forcing it to work that much harder to get your home comfortable. The result is higher utility bills. Sealing up is a small step that can pay off big dividends.
Install Smart Thermostats
A smart programmable thermostat allows you to control the times when your heating and cooling system operates. You can even adjust your thermostat remotely via your smartphone or tablet. If you are not comfortable swapping out thermostats, our team at Diversified can assist you.
Leave It to the Pros!
There are some jobs that you probably want our experienced team to handle. Scheduling annual tune-ups, for example, allows one of our NATE (North American Technician Excellence) certified experts to thoroughly inspect, clean, and service your HVAC equipment.
We recommend having your air conditioner inspected in the spring before the hot weather arrives and your furnace in the fall before winter hits. Because your heat pump handles both heating and cooling, we recommend having it inspected twice a year.
Unless you have experience working around electricity or natural gas, leave these types of jobs to one of our professionals. Safety always comes first.
Tune-ups and other service calls are covered in preventative maintenance agreements. If there ever is a problem with your HVAC equipment, our company offers 24/7 emergency repair services so we can be there right when you need us.
